Generate an Emergency License for ipMonitor

With the assistance of the Licensing Manager located on the ipMonitor Support Portal, it is possible for ipMonitor customers to generate their own 7-day Emergency License. This tool is provided as a Customer Service courtesy to assist with cases of hardware failure or similar issues that render customers unable to properly Park the ipMonitor license.

For example, you may find yourself in need of an Emergency License if:

Because the Emergency License expires at the end of 7 days, a request for a permanent license is placed automatically with the ipMonitor Technical Support department when a temporary license is issued.

IMPORTANT! Emergency Licenses are not meant to be used when migrating an ipMonitor 7.x installation to ipMonitor 8.x. For assistance with this task, please refer to the article titled Running ipMonitor 8.0 and 7.x Side-By-Side (Migration Strategy).

For additional information on licensing terms, conditions and restrictions that apply to ipMonitor, refer to the Software License - EULA section of the ipMonitor Administrator's Guide.

What You Should Know About Generating an Emergency License

Emergency Licenses are meant for short-term use on very rare occasions when circumstances require you to obtain a temporary ipMonitor license.

Please be aware of the following regulations and restrictions when generating an Emergency License:

  1. Only ipMonitor version 8.x installations are eligible to use Emergency Licenses. If you own an earlier version of ipMonitor, you must first upgrade to ipMonitor 8.x in order to take advantage of this tool.
  2. ipMonitor 8.x Licenses must be activated and in use (not "Parked" or "Uninitialized") for Emergency Licensing to be available.
  3. Because Emergency Licensing is part of ipMonitor's customer-oriented Support approach, a valid Maintenance Plan is required to use the Emergency Licensing tool.
  4. There is a limit placed on how many Emergency Licenses can be generated. This limit is determined by an internal Support Portal calculation based on the number of valid ipMonitor 8.x licenses you currently own.

Refer to the list below to cross-reference the number of eligible installations you own with the maximum number of Emergency Licenses available to you.

  1. When all the available Emergency Licenses at your disposal have been used, you must contact ipMonitor Technical Support and request an Emergency License reset.

Note: SolarWinds.Net reserves the right to deny further Emergency Licensing capabilities at its discretion.
  2. Emergency Licenses are valid for a period of 7 days. This length of time allows you to resolve your hardware or system issues in order to apply a new, permanent License to your installation.
  3. Immediately after the Emergency License is generated, the ipMonitor Technical Support department is notified of its existence. A Technical Support Specialist will contact you before the temporary License expires to restore your permanent License.
How to Access the Emergency Licensing Tool

Emergency Licenses can be generated using the Licensing Manager available on the ipMonitor Support Portal. To do so, proceed with the following:

  1. Log in to the Support Portal located at https://support.ipmonitor.com/ using your existing account and password information.
  2. Click the Licensing Manager link located on the right side of the top menu bar.
  3. Select the appropriate product from the list of installations currently eligible for Emergency Licensing, and then click the Go button.

  1. If you require a new ipMonitor 8.x executable to install the software on another machine, you can find a download link in Step 1 of the three-step Emergency Licensing process.
  2. Step 2 requires you to enter your installation's Site Code. When logged in to the ipMonitor web interface, you can locate the Site Code of your installation in the "About" box. To access the "About" box, click the About link located in the top right corner of the screen. If your fully licensed installation is marked as "Trial", the ipMonitor 8.x Trial warning expiry screen will also display your Site Code.
