ipMonitor's Scan Network Wizard makes it easy to achieve monitoring coverage for your entire network. This tutorial walks you through using the Scan Network Wizard to quickly and efficiently assemble a list of applications, services and devices that can be monitored.
A number of configuration options are available, giving you greater control over the returned list of possible resources you can assemble. For example, you can:
Note: For detailed information regarding the capabilities described above, please refer to the Scan Network Wizard section of the ipMonitor Administrator's Guide.
To begin scanning your network, proceed with the following:

|
TIP The /bits parameter determines the range of your search. For example, /32 represents a single IP address, and /24 represents 256 addresses. To start, we recommend scanning a wide range of IP addresses that will encompass your network. |

|
TIP The first time you use the Scan Network Wizard, we recommend leaving all the discovery methods checked. Please note that the SNMP discovery method will lengthen the duration of the scan, but will likely produce more results for devices and applications that are SNMP-enabled. For detailed information on each discovery method, including additional configuration options, please refer to the Scan Network Wizard section of the ipMonitor Administrator's Guide. |

Once the Scan is complete, you can make adjustments to the resource list before adding Monitors and Groups to your ipMonitor configuration.
The Found IP Addresses screen is used to reset and delete specific selections. For example, if you don't want a specific IP address listed, simply place a checkmark beside that IP address and click the Remove IP Addresses button.

When you're satisfied with the remaining results, click the Next button.
The network resources discovered by the Scan Network Wizard are assembled by IP address or NetBIOS name. For each resource it locates, ipMonitor suggests applicable Monitors. These are selectable from the drop-down box.

When you're satisfied with your selections, click Finish. Click OK when prompted to confirm the creation of the new Groups and Monitors.
At this point, the Monitors and Groups you've selected have been added to your ipMonitor configuration. This final step allows you to further adjust the settings for your Monitors and Groups.

Note: Monitors created using the Scan Network Wizard are disabled by default. This allows you to make any necessary configuration changes before the Monitor goes live in a production environment.
