Using Custom Tags to Store Emergency Information
ipMonitor supports enabling outbound notifications for both Failure and Recovery scenarios. Information found in Custom Tags attached to Monitors and Alerts can be included in these notifications to provide you with important emergency information when you need it most.
Depending on the Alert Type you choose, here are a few examples of the types of emergency information you can include in a Custom Tag:
- HTML links (i.e. to existing network documents on how to restore/maintain a resource)
- Names of administrators and other contacts
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
- Physical addresses
- Location of the device, etc.
Example
The following example shows an Email Alert with the emergency contact information included:

To include a Custom Tag in the text of an outbound notification:
- Access the Tag Editor by clicking the note icon adjacent to a Monitor or Alert, then clicking the Add Tag option on the menu bar.
- Under Name, input the value "ContactInfo".
- Under Value, input the value "Call John Smith, (555) 565-1313, jsmith@company.com".
- Click the Alerts menu option, then select the Profile to which the Alert will be added.
- Click the Add Alert option on the submenu bar, then select Customizable Email from the drop-down menu.
- Input values for: Alert Name, Send an Email Message To, and Send Email From.
- Append the following text to Failure Message:
- %monitortag[ContactInfo]%

- Click OK to save your Alert configuration.
- To test your Alert, click the Force Test button located on the submenu bar.
