Restarting Failed Applications Using the External Process Alert
Using ipMonitor's External Process Alert, it is possible to run a reset utility application (such as IISReset, which is included with IIS, for example) when a Monitor failure occurs. A Failure message can be passed on the command line to the executable file in order to restart a failed application.
Example
To launch a reset utility application when a Monitor fails, follow the procedure outlined below after you have created the relevant Monitor and Profile.
- Log in to the ipMonitor Administration interface and click the Alerts menu option.
- Click the name of the Profile to which you want to add the Alert.
- Click the Add Alert button, then select External Process from the drop-down menu.
- Complete the Identification and Availability sections as desired.
- Within the Alert Parameters section, complete the following fields:
a. Enter the Executable Name of the Reset Utility.
b. Enter the Directory where the executable resides. This can be a local directory or an accessible UNC network shared path.
c. Specify the Startup Directory, again using the local or UNC network path where the executable is to run.
d. Select any necessary Credentials to run the executable.

- Within the Notification Content - Failure Messages section, specify any arguments to be passed to the executable.

- Click OK to save the Alert.
Note: The External Process Alert requires Administrator privileges to configure.
