Using the Wildcard Character (*) to Define Enterprise OIDs

ipMonitor supports the ability to specify an OID prefix by using an asterisk (*) as a wildcard character.

Used with ipMonitor's QA Trap Monitor, the OID identifies the network management subsystem that generated the SNMP Trap. Entering a wildcard character within the OID in the Enterprise OID section allows you to send email Alerts for all SNMP Traps, regardless of the OID or variable bindings.

Example

The value below the asterisk is accepted.

In this example, all enterprise OIDs sent by any number of SNMP Agents are evaluated, provided the IP address of the Agent is within the Trap Monitor's allowable range.

Additional Information

To receive Email Alerts for all Traps, do not filter on Variable Bindings in the Analysis of Test Results section. Simply click OK at the bottom of the page to save the newly configured Monitor.

In order to relay the entire content of the received Trap in the Email Alert, include the following token in the Content Generator used by the Information Alerts:

%capture[bindings]%
