Maintenance Schedules Help Reboot Servers and Services

ipMonitor allows Administrators to create Maintenance Schedules and apply them to Groups and Monitors.

Some settings do not take effect until a Service or computer is rebooted, such as a software patch manually installed requiring a reboot. Maintenance Schedules have the ability to restart Services and reboot computers at a specified date and time, or as an ongoing activity. In this instance, you can have ipMonitor restart the computer at a convenient time.

Example

To schedule a server reboot or Service restart:

  1. Click the Automation menu option and select Maintenance Schedules from the drop-down menu. Click the Add Maintenance Schedule menu option.
  2. Enter a Name for the new Maintenence Schedule, then select the Disable Monitors while ipMonitor performs routine actions option.
  3. Select either the Reboot Server or Restart Service option.

  1. Use the Browse button to list the machines found on your network, then select the machine to update the Server Name field. Click Continue to confirm your selection.
  2. If restarting a Service, click the Browse and Select button to scan the machine specified and display a list of Services. Select the Services you want to restart and click Continue to confirm your selection.
  3. Select the desired Schedule for the new maintenance action.
  4. Click the Add Monitors or the Add Groups submenu option and choose the Groups or Monitors you want to add. Click Continue to save your choices.
  5. Click OK to save your Maintenance Schedule.
Additional Information

Just prior to maintenance, ipMonitor suspends the affected Monitors, ensuring that while planned maintenance is being performed it does not trigger Alerts or display negatively in historic reports. After maintenance, ipMonitor unsuspends the affected Monitors.
