Organizations that use SMTP Relaying to forward mail to domains other than their own typically only permit authenticated relaying. This process requires you to authenticate before you can send a message, either by providing a password or by logging into the mail server before sending any mail. Authenticated relaying prevents using the organization's SMTP server to send spam.
