Internal Maintenance - Archiving Your Configuration Settings

ipMonitor's Internal Maintenance feature allows you to perform reoccurring maintenance actions, such as archiving your ipMonitor configuration settings.

When the option to archive configuration data is enabled, all your previously configured items will be backed up on a regular basis, including Monitors, Alerts, Profiles, Accounts, etc. The Credentials Database may also be archived, if a Credential is specified in the Encryption Credential field.

This process allows you to restore your configuration settings at a later date if for example, the hard drive becomes corrupted on the host machine and the software needs to be reinstalled.

Example

ipMonitor's reoccurring Internal Maintenance scheduler is hard-coded into the Maintenance Schedule list. To archive your installation's configuration settings, proceed with the following:

  1. Log in to the ipMonitor Administration web interface.
  2. Click the Automation menu option and select Maintenance Schedules, then click the Reoccurring ipMonitor Maintenance link.
  3. Place a checkmark in the Archive ipMonitor Configuration checkbox.
  4. The Backup File Pattern is already filled in, however, you can change the default path and file name if desired. Click the Token List button to insert a token in the file name.
  5. Choose or create an Encryption Credential by clicking the Select... button. This is a necessary step in order to archive the Credentials Database.
  6. Specify the days of the week when the Internal Maintenance Schedule will run.
  7. Click OK to save your settings.
Additional Information

To restore the backup file created through the Internal Maintenance archiving process, you must download the Backup-Restore Utility from the Downloads & Resources section of the ipMonitor Support Portal.
