ipMonitor’s product release history includes notes for all ipMonitor releases on a per-build basis. Releases are listed in reverse-chronological order. Added features, improvements, enhancements and fixes are detailed below.
ipMonitor 8.5, Build 1163 - Release Date: 27 August 2007

Corrections

  1. Removes a security vulnerability in ipMonitor that could allow an attacker to use a specially-crafted URL to access any file on the ipMonitor install drive.
  2. Fixes an issue with the Monitor filter creation process. You may now create valid Monitor filters without having to first use a Quick Filter.
  3. Fixes an issue with Live Status page sound alerts not being triggered in Firefox 2.x. Clear your browser cache to activate the fix.
  4. Improves the resiliency of WMI monitors encountering WMI Error 0x80070721. WMI monitors for devices that experience this error will be run outside the ipMonitor process for 400 seconds.

New Features

  1. New Temperature Monitor (inherently supports: APC, Dell, HP, IBM, Netbotz, Powerware, Sensatronics, Tripp Lite and RFC-1628).
  2. New Humidity Monitor (inherently supports: APC, Netbotz, Sensatronics and Tripp Lite).
  3. New Fan Monitor (inherently supports: Cisco, Dell, HP and IBM).
  4. New File Property Monitor detects modifications (such as File Size, Last Modified Date and File Checksum) made to a file, and triggers an Information Alert when changes outside of specified bounds are detected.

  6. New Mass Edit feature for Monitor Configuration Settings makes it easy to quickly apply large-scale changes to configuration fields across any number of Monitors using a rule-based system.
  7. New Mass Edit feature for Tags makes it easy to quickly apply large-scale changes to Custom Tag name and content values using a rule-based system.
  8. The Mass Edit for Monitor Configuration Settings feature and the Mass Edit for Tags feature both support the ability to preview and / or cancel changes before committing to them.
  9. New Relations feature offers a top-down look at the way essential ipMonitor elements (such as Monitors, Groups, Profiles, Alerts, Configurable Reports, Report Publishers, Maintenance Schedules and Credentials) interrelate with one another, making it easy to spot associations at a glance.
  10. New Reporting Zoom ability allows users to select time ranges and crop Reports based on anomalies visible within any graph.
  11. Test indicators are now clearly marked in Zoomed Reports, highlighting failures and other problems encountered during Monitor testing.
  12. New Report Cells have been added to display Report data using unique graphical icons. For example: battery icons will show data gathered by Battery Monitors, memory stick icons will show data gathered by Memory Monitors, CPU gauge icons will show data gathered by CPU Monitors, etc.
  13. New bar graph and pie chart layouts are now available to display data within Configurable Reports.

Enhancements

  1. The CPU, Drive Space, Memory and Service Monitors can now communicate with Windows operating systems using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).
  2. The Add Server Wizard can now be accessed directly from within the Network Scan interface, making it possible to control the resource discovery process on multiple servers, workstations and devices.
  3. Improvements to the Network Scan Wizard allow full control over the range of IP addresses that will be scanned.
  4. The Network Scan Wizard now has the ability to exclude servers, workstations and devices from the list of resources that will be scanned in the future.
  5. The improved Network Scan Wizard receives AJAX treatment, allowing it to display status information to all users in real-time.
  6. A Credential can now be added to the Network Scan Wizard, allowing ipMonitor to authenticate with remote resources during the discovery process.
  7. Monitors that display Transfer Rates or Bandwidth Utilization can now be configured to display inbound and outbound data in either kilobits per second or kilobytes per second.
  8. Drag and drop capabilities have been added to high usage areas of the web interface, allowing actions such as quickly and easily resizing, reordering, and adding columns without requiring a page refresh.
  9. Improved calendar feature now allows users to highlight individual dates using two side-by-side calendars for a fluid data range selection. Full control over the start and end day, hour, minute and second is supported.
  10. The ability to automatically stop a Service has been added to ipMonitor's Maintenance Schedules. Credentials can be configured on a per-action basis.
  11. Filtered Monitors can now be loaded into ipMonitor's NOC view, allowing users to isolate and display only specific Monitors in a NOC environment.
  12. A Disk Report Publisher Credential can now be specified, allowing Reports to be saved to locations on remote machines that require authentication.
  13. When Custom Tags are referenced in an Alert, formatting elements are now stripped out of the Alert's message body, allowing the Alert to be sent out in plain text without additional formatting symbols.
  14. The locking method placed on the query statement issued to a Database Server or Data Source can now be specified when using the SQL: ADO – QA Monitor.
  15. Live Report screens (such as the NOC View, Details View and various Admin Dashboard screens) can now be designated as custom Start Pages. Monitors, Groups and Filters can all be retained and automatically loaded to be displayed the next time a user logs in to ipMonitor.
  16. ipMonitor is Vista ready. The Install, Uninstall, and Configuration Programs will correctly work with User Account Control (UAC). Services and internal executables are not affected by UAC.

  3. Bandwidth Monitors, when added via the Server Scan, will no longer default to selecting "loop back" and "tunnel" interfaces for addition. Instead, these Monitors will default to unique interfaces ordered by their physical address. Adding these interfaces will require users to select the appropriate interface.

Corrections

  1. The SQL Server Monitor will now correctly display the "Minimum SQL Memory" value when the "Verify..." button is clicked.
  2. Corrected a memory leak within the Monitoring Service that would occur when using a Disk Publisher to save a configured Report to disk.
  3. Corrected a memory leak within the Reporting Service that would occur during regular use on each request to generate a new Report.
  4. Live Status Views will now respect the page refresh values. Build 1121 included a user interface regression, which prevented the Live Status views from refreshing at the desired intervals.
  5. Live Status Views will now correctly navigate to Groups. Build 1121 included a user interface regression, which prevented access to Groups with an ID larger than 15 decimal digits (due to a JavaScript limitation).
ipMonitor 8.04 Build 1121 - Release Date: 12 December 2006

New Features and Enhancements

  1. Email Report Publishers now offer more advanced scheduling, including the ability to be sent out on a specific day of the month.
  2. HTTP-based Monitors now allow site names with numbers to be entered in the "IP Address / Domain Name" field.
  3. Added new Behavior Modifier: "monitoring.httplike.enlanguage.enable". When this Behavior Modifier is enabled, HTTP-based Monitors will submit an "Accept-Language" Header in GET requests to prevent rejections on some web servers.
  4. The new Database Repair / Optimization tool is now shipped with ipMonitor 8 by default.

Corrections

  1. Corrected an issue within the Add Server that incorrectly hardcoded the "Public" community within initial SNMP GET requests.
  2. Adjusted the External Process Alert to validate "Set Environment Variables" fields and remove them when the "x" is clicked.
  3. Adjusted the mouseover tool tips in NOC View Live Reports to include the Monitor Name.
  4. Corrected an issue within the Unavailability column in Configurable Reports displaying percentages in the thousands.
  5. Corrected an issue with the MAPI QA Monitor recording Uptime as Downtime.

ipMonitor 8.02 Build 1104 - Release Date: 31 August 2006

New Features and Enhancements

  1. Bandwidth Usage data, expressed as total bytes transmitted, is now available as a column inside a Data Table. After creating a Report that includes a Bandwidth Monitor, try cloning a column and changing its Statistics Source to: "Bytes Out (Sum)".

Corrections

  1. Corrected an issue with "overflow files" in the "dbtmp" directory, which created a gap once a day throughout all Monitors.
  2. Corrected an issue with email Reports sometimes embedding their images as attachments, instead of inline within the Report.
  3. Units of measurements have received their appropriate case, such as "KB", "MB", and "GB", in both the User Interface and within Reports.
  4. Accounts with restricted privileges set to view Status pages in the Admin Dashboard will now appropriately start with the Status page instead of the System page.
  5. Monitors in the NOC view, when sorted by name, will now be in the correct, case insensitive, order.
  6. Tool tips in the NOC view are now visible.
  7. Corrected an issue with ADO Monitors not being created properly, using Microsoft SQL and TCP/IP instead of named pipes.
  8. Corrected an issue with the configuration program corrupting the main configuration file (config.xml).
  9. Corrected an issue with the HTTP Monitor incorrectly believing the Server is OK on receipt of an HTTP Code 500.
  10. Corrected a noticeable daily memory leak within the Reporting Service.
  11. Changed the location of the registry "Allow installation on Domain Controller" value to not be version specific. It is now: HKLM\SOFTWARE\ipMonitor\ALLOWLANMANNT=1
  12. Corrected an issue with Drive Space Monitors, using SNMP Host Resources Communication Type, where the Monitor would intermittently report that the device "did not adhere to protocol specification".
  13. Reports Containing "Drive Size" within a Data Table or Graph Cell will now see data.
  14. Corrected a GPF in the Reporting Service that could occur when a Report was first viewed.

ipMonitor 8.01 Build 1095 - Release Date: 2 August 2006

New Features and Enhancements

  1. SNMP Delta statistics are now reported in terms of "events over time".
  2. Monitor Address has been added to the Details View, NOC View, and to Report Data Tables as an "Intrinsic Property". This allows for a simpler way to specify this configuration parameter than "nv/addr", or "nv/target".
  3. New installations will now be populated with default Monitor Filters and an appropriate Email Report Publisher.

Corrections

  1. Corrected an erroneous version number within Event Log messages.
  2. Corrected a potential 100% CPU consumption issue occuring with specially crafted Event Log messages.
  3. Corrected a scenario that indicated rates much larger than anticipated for Network Interfaces when reporting Bandwidth Usage. The Reporting Service was treating Bandwidth usage data like regular data such as RTT, without adjusting for polling frequency.
  4. The Network scan no longer requires a page refresh to trigger the next step.
  5. Printing Reports within the Report Browser using Internet Explorer is once again possible.
  6. Corrected an issue with Windows 2000 ipMonitor host machines unable to connect to Exchange and SQL Servers.
  7. Resolved an issue with Content Matching Patterns. Although "\i(.*?)" correctly matched an empty string, it was not what the user intended. This exact regular expression has been internally mapped to "(.*)", in order to grab the current line.
  8. Corrected an issue with the Add Report Wizard erroneously suggesting SNMP Delta values for non-Delta Monitors.
  9. Corrected an issue with Ajax status pages for Internet Explorer that showed "Unknown Response from Server" due to lack of XML Encoding.
  10. Corrected an issue with devices that reported NET SNMP CPU Data causing an empty Add Server Results page to display.
  11. Corrected an issue that resulted in a blank page displaying when using the Calendar in the Report Browser with a previously saved Report.
  12. Monitor thresholds are once again enabled.
  13. Corrected an issue with Monitor failure messages being erroneously stored in the v8 databases.
  14. Corrected an issue with the Reporting Server crashing when a failure to deduce time zone information occured.

  16. New SMS Text Pager: GSM Alert allows you to use a GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) modem to send a text message to an alphanumeric pager or digital phone with SMS (Short Message Service) support.
  17. New central Admin Dashboard screen now summarizes server configuration, details resource usage, provides access to updates and productivity tips and allows you to share information with other ipMonitor users and administrators.
  18. New Add Report Wizard helps you create custom Reports with the least amount of initial input. Report preview capabilities are available during configuration.
  19. New Quick Reports can be accessed from the submenu bar of an individual Monitor or a Group of Monitors, giving you instant access to statistics data recorded by that Monitor or Group.

Enhancements

  12. The web-based user interface has been completely updated and fully streamlined for ease of use.

  4. All Report Center links are properly disabled according to user account settings.
    Previously, link was enabled if viewing Historic Reports was unselected for an account. This would generate a 403.
  5. Sound not embedded as ".wav" when no sound is selected in Real-time Status Reports.
  6. Corrected issue in PING Monitor where an error message in the ICMP response was being mis-interpreted as a SUCCESS response.
  7. Corrected issue in ADO - QA Monitor that could cause ipMonitor to halt unexpectedly.
  8. Corrected issue with Credentials being cached in Server / Workstation Control.
  9. Corrected issue with Alerts not being processed if there was a "gap" in Alert Range coverage.
  10. JavaScript fix is applied to IP Address / Domain Name validation:
    Domain Name starts with a number was being reported as an invalid Domain.
  11. In the "Add Monitor ADO - QA Monitor" interface, if you select User-defined, Provider help properly appears in the Inline Help.
  12. In the "Add FTP - QA Monitor interface", the "Require the remote side to host the file transfer" checkbox now appears. Previously only appeared after the Monitor settings were saved.
  13. Corrected typo to LINK - QA "Verify Download Method" drop-down.
  14. JavaScript fix made to browser detection that permitted IE5.0x to not be properly identified and permitted access to ipMonitor 7.
