Status Information

The Status tab allows you to view a summary of all Groups currently available in your ipMonitor installation. This screen is updated in real-time, as shown by the animated indicator located in the top-right corner.

The Group Status screen allows you to determine the state of a Group at a glance. It also reports the Group's overall statistics: Monitors currently in a Lost, Down, Warn, Up or Offline state, as well as the total number of Monitors in the Group.

Note: Groups inherit the most critical state of any enabled Monitor(s) they contain. The display order of Groups in the Group Status list is determined by the critical state of each Group.

Dependencies assigned to a Group are listed based on the state of the Monitor. This listing corresponds to the order of Monitor states shown prior to the Dependencies column: Lost, Down, Warn, Up, Offline, Total.

For example, a Dependencies listing of: 0 / 0 / 0 / 2 / 0 / 2 indicates that the Group contains two Dependencies, which are both reporting as Up:

To edit a Group, simply click the icon located in the Edit column corresponding to the Group you wish to edit. You'll be directed to the Edit Group screen, where you can add or remove Member and Dependency Monitors, change the Group Name, etc.

Toggle Full Screen
Clicking the Toggle Full Screen button located on the Group Status submenu bar allows you to view a color-coded full screen summary of your Monitors and Groups. Click the button again to return to the Admin Dashboard Status screen.

Settings for this Page
To change the refresh delay for the page, filter visible rows or play a sound if failures are showing, click the Settings for this Page button located on the submenu bar.

Load Filter
Use the Load Filter option to select a previously saved Filter and display only the Groups and Monitors that match those Filter queries. Clicking the Toggle Full Screen button once a Filter is loaded allows you to display only those Groups and Monitors within a Details or NOC View window.

For more information on using Filters, refer to the section of this Administrator's Guide titled Filtering the Monitors List.

For additional information on configuring the Group Status screen, refer to the Live Reports document.

To view Monitors within a Group, click on the Group Name.

The Details View of Group screen displays the state of all Monitors within a specific Group.

Seven columns are visible by default within the Details View of Group screen:

  • Status - The current status of the Monitor.
  • Monitor Name - The name of the Monitor. To edit a Monitor's settings, simply click on the Monitor Name to launch the Edit Monitor screen.
  • Type - The type of Monitor configured.
  • Last Result - The result of the last test performed by the Monitor. Different Monitor types generate specific Test Results and Error Codes in accordance with the technical capabilities of the Monitor. Please refer to the specific Monitor section for a detailed explanation of the Test Results and Error Codes reported.
  • Availability - The percentage of time the Monitor has been available. This calculation is based on Coverage time.
  • Coverage - The total length of time ipMonitor has been monitoring the resource. Coverage specifically excludes any period while the Monitor is suspended, disabled, or in maintenance mode. This value is reset when ipMonitor is restarted.
  • State Change - The length of time since the Monitor changed operational states. This includes time elapsed since scheduled maintenance.

Note: To edit a Monitor's settings, simply click on the Monitor Name to launch the Edit Monitor screen.

Add Column
In addition to the default columns outlined above, two methods are available for adding supplementary columns to display more information about the Monitors being shown. Either click the Settings for this Page button to launch the Display Settings screen, or use the pop-up Drag and Drop selector directly by clicking the Add Column button.

Any Property can be dragged from the Drag & Drop box to the Details View of Group screen. Look for the blue arrow indicator to guide you. The indicator will appear when you drag a Property to a spot where it can be dropped. Dropping the Property will cause a new column to be inserted in the page, along with the appropriate data.

To delete a column, click on the Column Name located on the header bar. A recycle bin will appear in the lower-right corner of the page. Simply drag the column to the recycle bar and drop it there to remove a column.

Notes

ipMonitor's Notes feature is ideal for IT departments that have a team of persons accessing and using the Administration interface at various times.

Notes can be used to post messages for other ipMonitor Administrators and Users, such as: configuration settings, policy information, problem resolution, tips & tricks, etc.

If you plan to use Notes to share information with your team, each Administrator and User Account must:

  • Select My Settings from the Settings drop-down menu.

To delete a message, check the box adjacent to the message, and then click the Delete button.

To delete all messages, check the box adjacent to the Delete button, and then click Delete.

Note: Administrators can delete any message that is posted. Users are only able to delete messages that they post. Check boxes are only displayed for messages posted by that User.

To add a new message, click the Add Note button.
