ipMonitor's Internal Maintenance allows you to perform recurring maintenance actions such as rolling log files and backing up configuration settings.
Features include:
Click the Automation menu option, and then select Maintenance Schedules. From the Maintenance Schedules list, click the Reoccurring ipMonitor Maintenance link.

Name
The Name field allows the default Reoccurring ipMonitor Maintenance name to be changed.
Maintenance Mode
Internal maintenance mode is hardcoded and cannot be changed.

Archive ipMonitor Configuration
If enabled, ipMonitor will archive Configuration data to the file specified in the Backup File Pattern field.
Note: All Configuration data will be archived, including Monitors, Alerts, Profiles, Accounts, etc. The Credentials Database may also be archived, if a Credential is specified in the Encryption Credential field.
Backup File Pattern
The path and file name where Configuration settings will be archived. Click the Token List button to insert a Token in the file name. This allows for quick identification of archived files.
Example:
.\backup\ipm8_week%week%_%weekdaytext3%.ipm8backup
.\backup\ipm8_week4_mon.ipm8backup
Note: Configuration backup files are saved for a period of one month, at which point they are overwritten with new configuration data.
Encryption Credential
An Encryption Credential must be used in order to encrypt and archive the Credentials Database. The Credential used will need to allow the following Usage Restriction:
To assign a Credential:
Note: For more information about Credentials, refer to the section titled About Credentials.
Archive ipMonitor Log Files
If enabled, ipMonitor will archive existing log files to the Zip file specified in the Zip File Pattern field.
Zip File Pattern
The path and file name where log files will be archived. Click the Token List button to insert a Token in the file name. This allows for quick identification of archived files.
Example:
.\logs\archive\ipm8logs_%year%_%monthtext3%.zip
.\logs\archive\ipm8logs_2004_dec.zip
Note: Only one Zip file will be created each month. The existing Zip file will be updated with new information each time the Internal Maintenance Action is run. Files will not be removed if updated data is not available.
Remove Log Files by Age
Any existing logs that have not been written to in the selected length of time will be removed from the ipMonitor8/logs directory, and included in the archived Zip file.
Run on the Following Days
Internal Maintenance can be scheduled to occur on a weekly basis. Specify one or more weekdays to execute Internal Maintenance actions shortly after midnight.
Backup Now
To archive your ipMonitor configuration settings immediately, click the Backup Now button located on the submenu bar. If a Credential is specified in the Encryption Credential field, the Credentials Database will be included in the Zip file created.

Note: By default, the resulting Zip file will be named ipm8_ManualBackup.ipm8backup and saved to the directory of your choice.
IMPORTANT! To restore the backup file created through the Internal Maintenance archiving process, you must download the Backup-Restore Utility from the ipMonitor Support Portal.
Roll Log Files
If enabled, ipMonitor will roll the specified log files at midnight, on a daily basis. When a log file is rolled, ipMonitor renames the file to include the current date and creates a new, empty log file in its place.

Example:
Rolling the ipm8.log file on May 3, 2006, results in the following file name:
ipm8_20060503.log
Logs to Roll at Midnight
The ipm8.log and snmptrap.log files will be rolled by default when this Maintenance Action is enabled. Click the Add... button to roll additional log files located in the ipMonitor8/logs directory.
To archive your ipMonitor configuration settings without scheduling recurring internal maintenance, click the Backup button located on the drop-down menu of the Settings menu option.

Note: This ability works the same way as the Backup Now button located on the Internal Maintenance submenu bar, but can be accessed at any time directly from the main menu.

Encryption Credential
If a Credential is not specified in the Encryption Credential field, the Credentials Database will not be included in the Zip file created.
Backup
Click the Backup button to create the resulting Zip file. By default, this file will be named ipm8_ManualBackup.ipm8backup and saved to the directory of your choice.
IMPORTANT! To restore the backup file created through the Internal Maintenance archiving process, you must download the Backup-Restore Utility from the ipMonitor Support Portal.
