Simple Email Alert

The Simple Email Alert sends a dynamically formatted email that displays the Date, Time, Monitor Name, Monitor Type, Monitor Address, Profile Name, reason for Alert, and any custom data such as that trapped by Information Alerts.

The Simple Email Alert:

  • Can be sent to multiple recipients.
  • Allows message formatting from a selectable list of options: To, From, Date, Subject, and Message Body.
  • Allows individual Message Body content configuration for Failure Messages, Recovery Messages and Information Messages.
  • Supports ipMonitor Alert Tokens.
  • Supports setting an Optional SMTP Relay Server within Server Settings to ensure that email Alerts are accurately delivered.

Use the Simple Email Alert to:

  • Format and deliver a text email message using data generated by ipMonitor when the Alert is triggered on behalf of a Monitor or Group of Monitors.
  • Send custom Failure Notifications, Recovery Notifications and Information Messages using text and ipMonitor Tokens.

Alert Parameters

The Alert Parameters dialog box is used to specify the sender and recipient email addresses, as well as the fields to include in the email message.

Send an Email Message To
Enter the recipient's email address. To send the Simple Email Alert to several recipients, click the AND... button to add multiple email addresses.

Send Email From
The email address that the Simple Email Alert will be sent from. If configured, the default email address specified in Server Settings will be displayed. Enter a new email address if you wish to change it.

Send the Email Message Header: "To"
If enabled, the "To" header field will be sent as part of the SMTP message.

Send the Email Message Header: "From"
If enabled, the "From" header field will be sent as part of the SMTP message.

Send the Email Message Header: "Date"
If enabled, the "Date" header field will be sent as part of the SMTP message.

Send the Email Message Header: "Subject"
If enabled, the "Subject" header field will be sent as part of the SMTP message.

Send the Message Body
If enabled, the message body will be sent as part of the SMTP message.

Notification Content: Failure Messages

The Simple Email Alert can be configured to send Failure Notifications using text and ipMonitor Alert Tokens.

Send Failure Notifications
If enabled, ipMonitor will send a Failure Notification message to the recipients specified in the Send an Email Message To field.

Failure Message Subject
ipMonitor will use the values defined here to create the email subject field for the Failure Alert message. Text, numerical data and ipMonitor Alert Tokens are all valid content entries.

Failure Message Text
ipMonitor will use the values defined here to create the message body for the Failure Alert. Text, numerical data and ipMonitor Alert Tokens are all valid content entries.

Token List
Click the Token List button to place a Token between alphanumeric characters, words, or sentences. When a Token is found, it is replaced with dynamic content.

Notification Content: Recovery Messages

The Simple Email Alert can be configured to send Recovery Notifications using text and ipMonitor Alert Tokens.

Send Recovery Notifications
If enabled, ipMonitor will send a Recovery Notification to the recipients specified in the Send an Email Message To field.

Recovery Message Subject
ipMonitor will use the values defined here to create the email subject field for the Recovery Alert message. Text, numerical data and ipMonitor Alert Tokens are all valid content entries.

Recovery Message Text
ipMonitor will use the values defined here to create the message body for the Recovery Alert. Text, numerical data and ipMonitor Alert Tokens are all valid content entries.

Token List
Click the Token List button to place a Token between alphanumeric characters, words, or sentences. When a Token is found, it is replaced with dynamic content.

Notification Content: Information Messages

The Simple Email Alert can be configured to send Information Messages using text and ipMonitor Alert Tokens. Message Body content is received from a Content Generator used to format captured Event Log, SNMP Trap or File Watching Monitor data for readability or layout prior to passing it to the Alert.

Send Information Notifications
If enabled, ipMonitor will send an Information Message to the recipients specified in the Send an Email Message To field.

Information Message Subject
ipMonitor will use the values defined here to create the email subject field for the Information Alert message. Text, numerical data and ipMonitor Alert Tokens are all valid content entries.

Information Message Body
ipMonitor will use the values defined here to create the message body for the Information Alert message. Text, numerical data and ipMonitor Alert Tokens are all valid content entries.

Token List
Click the Token List button to place a Token between alphanumeric characters, words, or sentences. When a Token is found, it is replaced with dynamic content.

The %generatedcontent% Token will insert formatted text received from a user-created Content Generator.

Notes About the Simple Email Alert

Email Alert messages are not stored by ipMonitor. If a mail server is unavailable to receive the email Alert, it will be discarded. The Optional SMTP relay server field located within Server Settings can be used to ensure that email Alerts are successfully delivered to the intended recipients. Refer to Server Settings for more information.

The Simple Email Alert can be identified within a Profile's Alerts List by the blue envelope icon: .

The Simple Email Alert can be scheduled based on a weeklong calendar. Refer to the section titled Scheduling Alerts for more information.
