How do I Increase Email Delivery Efficiency within ipMonitor?

ipMonitor Administrators can configure all related settings in order to ensure that emailed Alerts and Reports are sent appropriately.

In order to send email, ipMonitor will proceed with the following by default:

  1. Connect to domain.com 25 (where "domain.com" is the email recipient's domain and "25" is the port).
  2. If the connection is successful, the email message is sent. If the connection is unsuccessful, ipMonitor will look up the preferred MX record for that domain.
  3. Once this information is gathered, ipMonitor will connect to the MX record on port 25.
  4. If the connection is successful, the email message is sent. If it is unsuccessful, ipMonitor will try the next MX record listed, if one exists. Otherwise, the email will not be sent.

Some of these procedures can be eliminated by specifying a mail server. As a result, the procedures mentioned above will be undertaken by the mail server, instead of ipMonitor.

In the event that the specified mail server goes down, ipMonitor will automatically revert to using the default procedures.
