Why does the QA ADO Monitor Return 'OS Error: 0x80004002'?
Symptom

The ADO - QA Monitor fails, returning OS error: 0x80004002.

The same connection settings configured with the ADO Monitor report as Up.

Cause

OS error: 0x80004002 indicates that an outdated version of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is installed on the client machine. The ADO - QA Monitor requires MDAC version 2.6 SP2 or greater.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must upgrade your MDAC installation to at least version 2.6 SP2.

You may determine the MDAC version currently installed by using the MDAC Component Checker utility, available from Microsoft's Download Center. The Component Checker checks the MDAC DLL files on the computer, compares them to a list from each version of MDAC, and reports the closest match.

To upgrade your MDAC installation, download the latest version of MDAC from Microsoft's Data Access and Storage Developer Center.
