How do I Allow ipMonitor Access to Monitor an IBM Informix Database?

The ADO (SQL Connect) and ADO - QA (SQL Query) Monitors require that you have the correct OLE DB Provider installed on the ipMonitor host computer to provide access to the database type you wish to use.

To access an IBM Informix Database, you will need to download and install the latest version of the Informix Client, available from IBM Corporation at http://www.ibm.com.

IMPORTANT! You'll require the following information before you begin:

  • The System and Host Name of the machine where the IBM Informix Database is located.
  • The Service Name of the IBM Informix Database.
  • A username and password to access the IBM Informix Database.
Step 1: Install the IBM Informix Provider
  1. Download the IBM Informix Provider to the ipMonitor host machine.
  2. Run the setup.exe file to begin the installation process.
  3. Click Next, and then read and accept the End User License Agreement.
  4. Enter your User Name and Organization.
  5. Choose the Complete installation option.
  6. Click Install to begin the installation.
Step 2: Configure the OLE DB connection
  1. Open the following file with a with a text editor such as Notepad or Ultra Edit:
    C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc\services
  2. Add a line similar to the following to the end of the 'services' file:
    <service name> <portnumber>/tcp #Service <servicename> Informix Instance

    Example:
    turbo1 1527/tcp #Service ipmsptwin2003 Informix Instance

  1. Save and close the 'services' file.
  2. Launch IBM Informix Setnet32 by clicking Start, All Programs, IBM Informix Client, and then Setnet32.
  3. Click the Server Information tab.
  4. Enter the IBM Informix Server name, Hostname, Protocolname and Servicename needed to access the IBM Informix Database, and then click the Make Default Server button.

  1. Click the Host Information tab.
  2. Enter the Current Host, User Name, Password Option and Password required to access the IBM Informix Database.

  1. Click OK to close the IBM Informix Setnet32 application.
